Here we are with another situation which is worth-while to discuss and important for debate.
Last year there was a GIGANTIC discussion about the differences between a HERO, an ANTIHERO, and a VIGILANTE. Reality has brought this home for more discussion.
Patrick Boyd Drum felt the 'calling' to make a change and to be a part of change. His calling is much like many of the others that don custumes/uniforms and masks. He wanted to be a savior.
He wanted to be a savior even if it meant breaking the law... and killing those that have been found guilty. Patrick Boyd Drum went on a killing spree and took out two sex offenders with clear plans to take out a third before he was caught.
Last year when I gave my understanding and differences between the three types that recieved the calling, I did NOT have this in mind, and yet I felt something like this was more than possible.
How does the RLSH Community respond to something like this? Is this an incident that goes ignored and is safer not to speak on? Is this something that has no impact on the RLSH community as a whole because its a clear-cut crime and he has nothing in common with RLSHs?
To me - it opened my eyes and showed me that one of the true aspects of a RLSH is 'Point-of-View'. I find that it is this thought pattern that makes the Hero-Antihero-Vigilante (HAV) brothers.
They all look out into the world with a similar point-of-view while separating themselves along the titles by their individual techniques.
Was this 'kid' trainable? Could his purpose have been redirected and more focused if he would have met 'other' RLSHs? Is this 'loosely' how he saw himself... as a Real Life Superhero?
Are their others in the RLSH-Community like this or with these tendencies? Do you all address it when you see it? Do you get personally involved or detach from it?
I remember when I was on the other board and I met MORE than one RLSH with these tendencies. They harbored anger, rage, disgust, and self-loathing. They felt that they could save themselves by becoming a RLSH.
That alone made me wonder, if this aspect made them a better or worst hero. I saw so many of them identify with Batman and The Punisher - rather than Superman and Captain America.
I saw many of them fighting hurt and confusion rather than embracing healing and direction. I saw the rise in attitude, frustration, ignorance, and fear as conversation after conversation focused on weapons, armor, crime-fighting, and martial skills.
YES, these things are needed, but so is grace, understanding, forgiveness, charity, accountability, and responsibility.
This guy, Patrick Boyd Drum of Sequim, Washington, is the perfect example of direction finding confusion and confusion finding the WRONG direction.
He won't be remembered as a hero or Real Life Superhero.
He won't be remembered by the masses after his headline fades away.
If he is found guilty... he will simply be a murderer.
And that will never be forgotten.
