Ok, I apologize in advance if I come off a little ranty but I read this today and I was apalled. It was a review by a female writer on the Game of Thrones series. It wasn't necessarily that she wasn't a fan of the show but it was a remark such as this one she made that had my blood hot:
WHAT?!!!!! Are you serious?
Do you mean to tell me that women are not fantasy readers and on top of that, there has to be some sex in the show just so we can watch it??? I'm sorry but there are plenty of shows that do the same thing to draw male viewers but that's not seen as a bad thing. I personally don't need a whole show just with sex and half naked people. Women are drawn to emotional connections first and physical second. I mean she should know this because she is a woman.
Now to the second point. First of all, as a whole, women make up the majority of book readers period. So why wouldn't we be reading fantasy books such as these? With so many female readers in the world, why wouldn't we read a book such as Game of Thrones?? Can we not like the same grittiness and political conflict that a man can??
I guess because I am a woman who writes fantasy and the fact that there aren't too many woman that do (unless you look at paranormal romance) it just stings to hear a woman totally dismiss a demographic that is heavily devoted to things fantasy and sci-fi.
What do you guys think of this?

“...is the sense you get that all of this illicitness has been tossed in as a little something for the ladies, out of a justifiable fear, perhaps, that no woman alive would watch otherwise.”
"While I do not doubt that there are women in the world who read books like Mr. Martin’s, I can honestly say that I have never met a single woman who has stood up in indignation at her book club and refused to read the latest from Lorrie Moore unless everyone agreed to “The Hobbit” first."
