This is sort of where I'm going with the story. Initially Jein and Ajalla were just going to be sidestories. But Jein in particularly has been fairly easy to write.
Issue Summary:
A futuristic circular home interior, the walls of silicon chrome go bling bling bling. A kitchenette makes itself known. A family of four are watching darkly comedic sitcoms involving Earth humans destroying themselves. The mother sits with her kids, one male, one female. The girl is 5'6, has long straight blond hair. The boy is 5'8, with slightly curly long blond hair. They both have eyes as blue as the deep blue ocean.
The girl is playing with the boys hair, as the rest of them watch violent images flash across the screen. The father is sitting in his punch pad chair, snickering at his sons reaction, who is slightly bugged by his sister playing with his hair, and watching a show he really doesnt like. The boy, named Ajalla says: "Please stop, thats annoying sis."
"Don't bother your brother, Mikale." The mother says.
"But I can't help it, his hair is so pretty and soft." Mikale says.
Ajalla is starring at the television show with a wide expression. He appears to be traumatized for the night. The high elf mother says "Well thats true. I guess thats what you get Ajalla, for looking like a girl."
"Dad, I don't like this show. Its scary." Ajalla says.
"Just think Ajalla, its turning you into a man. You'll grow up big and strong, and preach to those pesky Earth humans about what being closer to creation is about." The high elf father said.
The show fades to black, the credits begin to roll on the monitor built into the silicon walls. The High Elf Father says: "Time for bed kids, you need energy for school."
The mother tucks the kids into their sleeping pods. She then exits their rooms, and has a little chat with their father, who has a slightly cynical since of humer. He doesn't really believe whats being told on the television either, but realizes nothing can be changed. He also experienced similar types of brainwashing when he grew up.
"Hunny, I'm starting to get a little concerned...." The mother said.
"Is it about the show? Yea I don't like it either. Cie Le Vie! Besides these shows our required by the high elves counsel, dont ya know!" The father said.
"The people that run our government are brainwashing our kids!"
"Sure whatever, just remember not to get into my special shed in the morning. Elf pappy has work to do."
Ajalla is seen crawling through the wind sands, similar to the white sands in the tv show he was watching. Eventually he finds an old man in an advanced high elven engineer suit waving at him. Ajalla's Eyes snap open, he wakes up in his sleeping pod. Its morning.
Ajalla is waving good bye to his mother outside the eco-dome door as he begins his walk to school. Houses in the world have their own pedestrian zones. Ajalla is walking on his houses pedestrian zone. Eco-dome houses can be seen with their own gardens, and special shacks only the husbands can enter!
Ajalla is tackled by Jein, who is suppose to be walking in his own pedestrian zone. Jein tackles Ajalla, and tries snatching Ajalla's leather watch, so he can give it to him so he can put it in his wallet. Jein's arm is smacked out of the way, which causes Jein eyes to well up, and they run away screaming.
Ajalla arrives at the school entrance. The school was a two story eco-dome, with its own enterior green house. Looking into the greenhouse, Ajalla thinks he sees a blurry weeping willow, but he realizes it was never there at all. Ajalla looks at his watch. Ten minutes till class. Ajala ran into the school pushing some of the student that got in his way.
In class, the male high elven teacher is lecturing the class on second grade level math. Ajalla gets images on his head of the cutest girl in class, and then he heres Jein trying to penetrate his thoughts:
Ajalla makes an expression indicating discomfort. The teacher says: "Ajalla, pay attention!"
Jein giggles. Jein makes another attempt to penetrate his thoughts:
Jein slams Ajalla into the locker after class. Indicate the unsettling contrast between Ajalla's agression, and his obvious child like innocent expression, indicating he just wants to be loved. Jein asks:
"Hey Ajalla, now that I got your attention. Can you please take off your watch?"
Ajalla calls for help, and two school resource officers drive him away. Jein waves his arm about indicating he wants some of Ajallas affection. We can see his eyes well up.
Ajalla decides to invite Jeinkaru for lunch, but at first he is initially afraid to talk to him. Not cause he was scary, but because Jein seemed somehow,...pethetic. When Jein hesitantly allows himself to sit with him, Ajalla begins to ask about the situation, but is interupted by Jein who interjects:
"If its about the watch...."
Jein becomes red faced, and is holding their hands in their face. Jein is shaking violently. Ajalla asks:
"Jein, whats wrong. Ok I'm sorry for..."
Jein stops shaking for asec, peeks through their hands, and then shakes some more. And then they finally become bold enough once more to stare at Ajalla, like a supposedly happy little kid. Jeinkaru says: "I'm sorry Ajalla, honest!"
Ajalla looks confused, then asks, "Sorry for what!? I don't what..."
"I'm sorry daddy don't hurt me! Please, just take it away!" Jeinkaru is squirming, and screams. Ajalla eyes have a look of shock, then he asks, "Is it my watch? Are you jelouse of my watch? Wait...you said..don't hurt me?"
Jeins eyes well up again, puts their hands in their face again, and tries to avoid crying. Ajalla says, "Its....made of leather...ok look I'll just take it off and put t away in my pocket. It won't bother you again."
Ajalla slowly unstraps it, and places it in his pocket. Jein stops shaking, and realizes he doesnt want to hurt them at all. Jeinkaru finally smiles after many years. When Ajalla put away that rechid watch, a light went off in Jeins head that simply wasnt there since Jein was four. Jein honestly thought Ajalla was going to try to whip him with it.
When they got out of school after the bell, although Jein knew there was a certain taboo about "boys" touching boys. But Jein didnt really care, and when Ajalla offered to give him a ride on his shoulders, even though Jein initially felt silly doing it, Jein liked him, so "he" couldnt exactly refuse.
Ajalla dropped Jein off at the facility for their care provider, and bidded them farewell. In Jeins mind, They had images in their head where he was standing in their tippy toes of their crimson swedish clogs, giving a soft kiss to who Jein considered their hero. Jein slapped themself in the face. Ajalla noticed and asked:
"You ok Jein?"
"yes, of coarse. Take care AJ." Jein said.
Ajalla looked confused by them calling them the pet name. Jein blushed, and made lots of hand waving gestures for Ajalla to go back into his eco-dome. Jein walks into their eco-dome facility, where they saw other kids in similar situations either working on school work, or getting ready for bed. Jein walked into their dorm and locked their door.
Jein takes their shirt off, exposing a white canvas band wrapped around their chest. Jein dug into their drawer, and put on an actual crimson shirt they wanted to wear. A Crimson string top. Jein slips out of their crimson swedish clogs exposing their tiny bare feet. Jein plopped into their sleeping pod, and drifted off to sleep.
Then their third eye took over. Jein pictured in their dream, Ajalla sleeping in his bed. And then the vision switched to a black leather band on the back of the couch in their old eco-dome, on their homeworld. Jein wakes up screaming into the morning sun.
In school, Jein wasnt sure whether Ajalla was happy to see them, but Jein sure knew they were glad to see them. Jein is twirling their long red hair. When Ajalla looks back at them Jein smiles sheepishly. The teacher was presenting a lecture on second grade German language.
German has been a bit of a challenge for Jein since he was small. The rough equivalent between his world and Tarre was like Japan was to America. But Jein was improving their skill gradually. Ajalla however to Jein, seemed like a master linguist.
When Ajalla and Jein got out of school, Ajalla wondered if Jein ever had a birthday cake. People on Tarre don't really celebrate birthdays much anymore. It was always considered a grim occasion because they thought of it as one less year till your life was over.
Jein remembered the last time he had a birthday cake. It was the night before their guardian committed suicide. The ocassion was on his fifth birthday, his guardian made him a special red birthday cake.
"I think I'll pass, but thank you. It..." Jein says. Jein puts their hands back in their face, and says they'll said, "I'll see you tommorrow ok!?
Jein got to their dorm, and thought about how much they missed their guardian, who took care of them until they were five. Jein didnt remember much, except that it was a period when he was actually cheery. Jein didn't feel like offing themself so much those days. Jein has a flashback:
"Remember Jeinkaru, you need to remember to be yourself first and foremost. Don't ever let anyone ruin your ability to decide things for yourself, except when you know your their there to protect you." His adoptive guardian said.
It was the next night that he found his guardian dead, drowned in the bathtub. The floor was soaked with blood, the guardians wrist has been slit. Jein snapped back to the present when, a caretaker knocked on his dorm door.
"May I help you?" Jein asked.
"Jein, time to eat." The caretaker said.
Dinner was not anything particularly special: Peas, Squash, Peppers, and other veggies from the facilities garden, which was just outside the Cafeteria. All the orphens would sit on these adjusting touchpad seats to accomodate for varying heights of each child. The tables they sat at were round, the purpose of which was to make sure each child stared at each other directly in the eyes. That made communicating easier.
One of the high elven girls said: "You see their red hair, isnt it weird? She looks just like those people on that planet that recently joined our federation."
"I here they are still trying to rebuild their world. To bad their not like us right? The best and only way to build a village." The other girl said.
"Both of you shut up, there's probably a good reason they're born with red hair."
"No no, I dyed by hair. You see, its my favorite color."
Of coarse Jein was lying. They knew the kids always looked at the people as simply being an....other. Jein finished, after taking a bite, "Do you guys have a favorite color?"
The other kids looked confused. And then they just shrugged. Jein thought:
Jein woke up the next morning thinking about Ajalla, who offered to see if his parents could make them a red cake, even though normally the culture didnt celebrate birthdays. Jein took their bath. Jein groomed, and combed their hair. Finally they put on their school Crimson High Elven uniform, and then their Red swedish clogs.
Jein hoped the school didnt mind, since normally students were expected to wear blue. When the other kids smiled at Jein, they smiled faintly and waved. Jein walked out of the entrance, and saw Ajalla waiting for them.
"You decided on whether you wanted to have that red cake?" Ajalla asked.
"Yea about that..." Jein said, their eyes wandered back and forth.
"Theres no pressure. Just thought I'd make a friendly gesture."
"Well..."
"Yea I know, the last time you had that sort of thing was before you lost your guardian. ...Look, I don't think your...."
Jeins eyes welled up, and they said, "What do you know about my father!" Jein screamed, then started to walk a little faster, being a little creeped out by their friend. Ajalla grabbed their arm.
"Hey Jein, I didnt mean it like that. Look, I heard what you told me in your dream. You know about the high elven ability to communicate telepathically right?"
Jein looked at Ajalla, who appeared slightly conscerned about their friend. Ajalla said, "As I was saying, do you really think your guardian wanted you to live like this?"
Jein looked at them sheepishly, and said: "I guess not."
"Good, I'll see if my parents can make you some redcake."
When they arrived at the school doors, Ajalla said, "You know I like girls right?"
"I know,...I know I'll never be pretty enough for you."
Ajalla looked at them, then gave a nervous smile, "Maybe on your world, you were average looking. Here, looks don't matter. Your my friend, don't forget that!"
Jein winks at Ajalla, and walks inside. Ajalla looked into the schools garden once more. The blurry weeping willow was now crisp, its limbs turn up defying gravity like a smile.
