Cause and effect is a specific event, followed by a specific result. Everything logical cause has an effect that must logically follow.
This is where character developement comes in. All character development really is, is having an interesting character, while making sure their actions are not out of character. That the effect has a logical progression.
For someone that likes to steal apples, and ride magic carpets, you wouldnt expect them in the next scene to go around toting a huge machine gun killing civilians, unless their was a specific stating reason or cause that provoked this change in behaviour.
Certain causes and effects and events and character must makes sense, and logically follow. For example, Would a school teacher in the next scene by dressed up as an astronaut in the next scene. Well no, not unless they're hallucinating in front of their students in science class. Or they could have been fired, and decided to go back to school to train to become an astronaut. But then sort of thing needs to follow. There needs to be a middle so to speak. How to a, go to b, that went to c.
A career criminal who has a history of robbing banks, hacking into computers, and other activities isnt going to later be the type to feed the homeless, unless they somehow experience homelessness themselves.
On the other hand, a super hero type who has a history of feeding the homeless, and donating to Ronald McD's house isnt going to be found living under a bridge, being alienated from his community.
*Takes spock cap off.
Of coarse I have a character myself, that doesnt fit either description, but that character will come when my current project is done.
