Chapter 4. Into The Mountains
I was sitting at the campfire with the others for what felt like thirty minutes. Ajalla’s friend in the group talked about the ghost of a man who hacked his family to death after a bout of cabin fever.
Of coarse we knew in the real world something like this was just fluidal forces, or the energy left over on an object after the person who has owned or touched it has died. I got up off of the log, and said:
"Good night guys, I'm heading to my sandbags." I said.
"Night Jein." Ajalla said.
"Take care." Ajalla’s friend said.
"Farewell." Mikale’s friend said.
"Take care girl!" Mikale said.
I understood they were just being polite, but it just came across as fake somehow. I walked over to my shelter, and closed the door. I could still see the glow of the flame from the glass on my wooden door. A small mattress greeted me hello. I thought:
I took off my shirt, revealing bands around my chest that concealed my fake breasts, took off my red clogs, and went under the covers, and my eyes slowly closed. While I was trying to get to sleep, and could since a presence looking through my window, but could not bring myself to look. Then I saw a bright light coming through the cracked door. I thought:
I got up to close it, but saw two of the girls standing by the campfire. They're up late, I wondered why. And then I heard whispering between the two, but I could not tell what they were saying. And then I noticed something odd about one of the girls skin. It had cracks in it that resembled something where if you opened it, wires would be there to recharge the person. Was she an android? Before I closed, they figured out I was watching them. One of them twisted their heads 360 degrees. And then one of them said:
"I see you!." Mikale’s friend said.
I slammed the door shut, and locked the door. I tried going back to sleep, but I heard them trying to break the doors down. And then my real eyes snapped open. It was morning, and I crawled off my mattress, put on my shirt, shorts, and clogs. I then proceeded to pack up to go home. But before I could exit the doors...SPLASH! They pulled a prank on me.
"What was that for?" I said.
"We just love you, you know that!" Mikale's friend said.
"If you love me, do my laundry!" I said.
We all deflated our mattresses, and put it in our bags. I wondered if something was actually watching me in my shelter, or if it was just my imaginations from the ghost stories before.
As we walked home, Ajalla came over to me and asked quietly:
"Jein, we are sort of worried about you. Are you ok? We heared a loud slam during the night," Ajalla asked.
"You mean you didn't see Mikale and the other girl standing by the fire?" I asked.
"I was asleep, I'll ask. Hey Mikale, were you on your friend standing by the fire?" Ajalla said.
"Of coarse not AJ." Mikale said.
I thought:
"Well there you go." Ajalla said.
They had to be lying, I could have sworn they were standing by the fire. Not surprising I guess, my dreams have always been realistic. But something didn't seem right, for her and her friends movements were stiff, and the group had a certain distant aura around them.
And I could see the faint outline of an opening compartment just below the back neckline on Mikale's shirt.
"What are you starring at?" Mikale asked.
"Nothing Mikale!" I said.
"I thought you liked boys?" Mikale asked.
"I do!" I said.

I realize there is no such things as ghosts,
but I always found them cool.
