“In all chaos, there is opportunity.”
The city-states of Greek defined this concept and embraced the results. The vision of these many lands united as one was as far fetched as the actions of two blind noblemen trying to dance synchronized. Chaos was born from the cultures that developed in the smaller communities.
People learned the importance and strengths of living together in a community. This created their own unique way of life. Opportunity was the force that created the boundary between the communities and the union of the nation. Whenever there is a group working to accomplish a given task, a leader is born.
Each community, struggling to survive, gave birth to their own form of leadership. That leadership quickly developed its own way of life and rule…its own government. The government was to serve the people and their choices were to guide their way of life. This was known as a democracy.
The foundation concept of a democracy inherently supports the division of a people. With each community, theoretically, voting and choosing their own way of life this developed an ethnocentric point of view for the emic of their culture. That sense of belonging would not allow the union of the lands into a region of one. The opportunity for growth and power was too great in the smaller communities. When one community dealt with another, this often led to bitter disputes, and fights. One community would have a law against an act that would normally be allowed in another community. This was often encountered during trade, philosophy, and religious practices.
The unity of the people, the wants of the community, and the vision of Greece would not be one. The collisions of the people, the cultures of the community, and the blindness of Greece would not divide…this was chaos. The philosophy, the art, the individual, and the question why became the unsaid leaders of this age. They were the opportunities that were embraced. These two aspects have been passed down generation after generation and even now, this provides something positive in the learning process of their history.
