I came across this post from an individual that I met on another website. He and his girlfriend were saved by a Real Life Super Hero in a green suit. It inspired him so much, he took up the cause under the leadership and tutelage of a very well known and respected veteran RLSH named Knight-Hood.
Upon joining Knight-Hood's new team, this individual went out on his first patrol and came back with the following report.
--------------------------------
So I don't have a costume or anything but I decided to join Knighthood's cause and figured it wouldn't be a bad idea to go out and see if I couldn't help out some of the homeless.
I made some flyers with some shelter info and another set with the address and number of the safe place and rape crisis center if there where any working girls I also brought some brow bagged lunches with 'Knights of the Hood' written on them.
I started around 7pm and handed out some food and flyers to the homeless. A couple asked for some blankets so I went to Walmart and got some snuggies for them.
At around 9pm I ran into a woman named chelsea who was crying and I asked her what was wrong?
She told me her boyfriend had hit her and chased her down the road threatening to kill her.
I asked her if it was ok if I called the police and she said yes. I sat with her for around 20 min while the police did their thing and after I told them my bit they went out looking for the guy.
Chelsea said she didn't have anywhere to go so I walked her to the shelter and made sure she got in ok. It was around 11pm at this point and I figured another hour of walking around wouldn't hurt.
I ran into a group of kids who were taunting a homeless guy who was sitting on a bench. i ran up and asked the kids if their parents would be ashamed of them for doing something like this, and they ran off.
The guy's name was Doug and he had been homeless for 20 years and had a crack addiction. I told him about the shelter and he told me it was too far for him to walk. I figured the guy wasn't going to try and mug me so I offered him a ride there. We stopped at McDonalds on the way and he was ecstatic. After dropping off Doug I decided to call it a night and head home.
I know this isn't like a super awesome patrol story or anything but I figured I'd share. I'd like to think the people I helped out will pay the kindness forward. ---------------------------------
This is the power of inspiration. The guy that did this is named Steve Harrison and he is not so different than you and I.
I am VERY proud to salute you, Steve!! To me... you ARE a Real Life Super Hero!!
