I sat down and forced myself to catch up with the new television series phenomenon called, The Walking Dead. Now first of all, I can't really do a review because it wouldn't be fair.

I went into this knowing that there would probably be an overwhelming abundance of Idiot-Actions-During-a-Survival-Situation (IADSS).

I was not disappointed.

The Core Concept of the story was standard and the theme started as survival and drifted into a bunch of trivial character development plots based on mush.

I struggled through the first season and was abandoned by my review team before the finale... they were disgusted also by the trivial mush that the survivors went through.

There was an attempt at character building, so everything wasn't lost... but most of it focused on making mistakes... and more mistakes... and more mistakes... etc.

They made the most compassionate, indecisive, and bewildered guy the leader (even though he was the biggest person in the dark with the entire situation) and they made the only one with real survival skills and intellect (the Asian kid) a lackey follower.

yea... wouldja believe that?

The second season (so far) has been dedicated to finding one of their lost members which happens to be a little girl. They use the entire season to continue the build of the characters and it is all done in ONE location which is a farm populated by some delusional veterinarian doctor who collects zombies in his barn.

Oh, did I mention that he doesn't want them to carry guns on his property and he has them sleeping out side in their little campsite by the barn?

And did I mention that these nutcases do it?!? This could NOT and would NOT be me!!! I'd cuss him out and throw him into a pack of zombies then take over the house!!

Dummies!

Did I mention that their dumb leader went out to help the doctor catch a couple of zombies to bring back to the barn? Did I mention that the character development was so weak I couldn't remember anyone's name?

I got SO tired of screaming at the television screen... but I was also DETERMINED to enjoy this!!

I could list the classic examples of 'Zombie Apocalpse' stoopid-decision-making... but that wouldn't be right. In the finale, the one guy who got tired of all of the stoopid stuff, yelled at everyone, gave everyone a gun, and they went on a zombie killing spree over at the barn.

YEA!!!!

Even though they painted him as a bad guy... he made the entire season worth it!!! I can't wait until the start the rest of the season in February!!!

(now, I hafta get back to watching... 'SCARE TACTICS!!')

I watched the first episode of the first Season when it aired and I was like "meh".

You're right. It was like a typical zombie movie every episode and it gets tiring after awhile.

You know who had my favorite zombies ever? I Am Legend. Now those are zombies!!

I'll be honest, I read the first graphic novel. I understand its a self defence situation. But I just stopped reading once the father gave the eight year old kid a gun. I understand its fiction, but I can't turn my brain off from that.D: Honestly, at Eight I think its the parents responsibility to protect the kid. Its the same logic I see in a young person carrying a sword and going on a journey without their parents. There is only so much I can turn my brain off from.

justsarah....well all that tells us is that you have a strong sense of values and protectiveness towards kids. And as a parent I can say that there needs to be more of that in this world.

Let's see, a gun in the hand of an 8 years old kid. Hmm...

Is this right or wrong..?

Normally, I would instinctively scream this is wrong, but if you would have asked me some years back, I would not be making that same statement.

A gun is a tool which can be used as a weapon. The world one lives in dictates when that tool should be used. I've been shooting my entire life and I came up in a place in which age didn't matter when it came to shooting or being shot.

I've seen shootings, I've seen break-ins, I've seen violence. If you were to sit down with those in my world, it would be extremely troubling to swallow the ages of some of those kids that were carrying weapons just to survive.

That world was dark and that world is still dark.

I can't say whether its right or wrong to give an 8 year old child a gun only because there have been situations in which an eight year old child saved everyone's life within the house by shooting the guy breaking in during the middle of the night.

It definitely depends on the world one is living in.

Omen~~ Agreed...to a point. In Pioneer Days, when you had to hunt for food, it might seem to be something that you would see. But even then, children were not allowed to handle fire arms.

Even with proper training to handle them, at that age a child lacks the life experience and maturity to make proper decisions, especially in bad situations.

Children need protection and guidance from adults. The sad fact is that kids who dont have it, very often turn out to have a warped sense of right and wrong, making them nearly as dangerous as the world they live in. Remember Lord of the Flies?

The Walking Dead is interesting to me. I sort have a love hate relationship with it.

The zombie survivalist in me absolutely hates all of those characters. It you want a good "What NOT to do in a Zombie Outbreak" they're it.

I read the first four graphic novels before the show came out, and like Omen, I was disinterested by the "mush". It becomes less and less about survival and more about who slept with who. That's not character development. That's a soap opera.

However, I do like some of the unique settings. For anyone who doesn't want a spoiler, don't read ahead..........................................but eventually, they utilize a prison as their stronghold against the zombies. Would've been awesome if they had executed the idea better, instead of focusing on the angst and soap opera mush.

What I don't like about the show:
- Why does everyone, even those untrained with guns get perfect head shots all the time?
- The second season was definitely a cop out with spending the entire time looking for the little girl. That doesn't even happen in the graphic novel (at least, I don't think so) and if they were trying to bide time for character development, it was wasted, because as Omen stated earlier, it was redundant and lacked actual depth.
- In the comic, as well as in the show, why don't they just find a farm of their own? With the human population almost extinct, there are bound to be tons of abandoned ones in that area! They could have remained allies with the vet, and he would have shown them how to grow food and tend to livestock WITHOUT the protagonists having to deal with his delusions or rules. They would've made their own on their own property!

It's not a bad comic/show, but I don't think it deserves the hype it gets these days. So far the show holds my interest more than the comic, but execution is key, and if it doesn't improve I could end up losing interest with the show too.

It has been a while, but I had to return to this thread. I have started to follow this new seaon of The Walking Dead and...

I LOVE IT!!!

They have a samurai girl cutting fools up, They killed the main girl that was married to the cop and slept with his best friend... did I mention she was pregnant - had the kid - died - don't know who the baby-daddy is - AND got shot in the head by her son?!?

AAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!! YES! YES! YES!!

It's so good!!! Wait, I'm starting to cry again... (I'm a man - I'm a man).

Their killing main actors left and right while introducing new ones...YES!!! They have a town led by a psycho governor... YES!!

Storyline? Storyline?? What did you ask? Is there a storyline??
